That weren’t no d.j. that was hazy cosmic jive. ..Bowieball 2012 people! A night of laughter, drag queens, large hair, and glitter. What could be better? For my Bowie costume, I reused my Mighty Boosh Glam Rock Ski Suit, turned it backwards, added some sequin shoes, visor sunglasses, and VOILA! A starman inspired outfit! We danced the night away at Le Poisson Rouge on Bleecker, and witnessed some AMAZING Club Kid-esque inspired outfits. I forgot my camera at home, but luckily TimeOut and The Village Voice captured the affair. Click here for TimeOut’s Album. Let the children boogie.
Today I wore a poncho….it’s IMPOSSIBLE to be unhappy in a poncho!
The outfit is actually from China, but if you are in the market for one, I would check on various websites that sell zentai or catsuits :)
If you haven’t seen the British television show The Mighty Boosh, stop reading now, and pop it in your Netflix queue (or watch this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IjGNJPNyzU). On a trip to the tundra, Vince Noir, played by Noel Fielding, breaks out his famous Glam Rock Ski Suit complete with lightning bolts and pink fuzzy boots. Though the suit was made especially for the show, I was able to find a pretty convincing replica for a costume party. I was really surprised at how many people recognized the outfit in the New York subway! Vince is the ultimate dandy, and he inspires many of my (real life) fashion choices, so check back soon for more fashion inspired by the King of the Mods.
My friend and fellow fashionista Alicia Maye, created this amazing music video entitled Have a Cup of Tea. I asked Alicia to comment on her inspiration for the wonderful Zentai suits.
“I knew that I was going to be working in a low light environment because I was trying to recreate this woman’s internal prison. I wanted to use materials that would pick up as much light as possible so that I could create the impression of movement in the dark without giving away the creatures’ true form. The costume design was inspired in part by the many Noel Fielding characters in the Mighty Boosh who sport sparkly cat suits. I wanted it to be fun and glamorous, without undermining the overall menace. I wanted the costumes to emphasize the form and animalistic movement of the purple creatures.”
